Our History
Minnewaska Showstoppers was "officially" formed in 1978 when our first Broadway-style musical, South Pacific, was performed. A number of performances took place prior to 1978, but this is the year that is most often recognized as the true beginning of the organization in its present form. The physical address of the organization is in Glenwood, Minnesota, but includes all of Pope County and the surrounding areas, including the cities of Starbuck, Villard, Cyrus, Lowry, Sedan and Terrace. The Minnewaska Theatre Arts Association, Incorporated name came into existence when the organization was incorporated and recognized as a non-profit corporation.
Every year since 1978, the major performance has been during the
Glenwood Waterama, which takes place during the last full weekend in July. Most of these have been musicals, but every so often a non-musical play has been performed. For a listing of our past productions, please click

Minnewaska Showstoppers has also been involved with smaller performances over the years, including variety shows, smaller, less well-known plays, children's shows and Christmas shows.
Currently, our primary performance venue is the Fine Arts Auditorium at
Minnewaska Area High School, located midway between Glenwood and Starbuck, Minnesota, on State Highways 28/29. The organization has an active working relationship with the Theatre/Drama Department at the school.
