Exit Laughing is a hit comedic play by Paul Elliott about three Southern women from Birmingham—Connie, Leona, and Millie—who "borrow" the ashes of their recently deceased bridge partner, Mary, from the funeral home for one final, wild card game.

For 30 years, Connie, Leona, Millie, and Mary have gathered weekly for a routine bridge game, which serves as the anchor of their social lives. When Mary suddenly passes away, the remaining three women struggle with the loss.

Millie decides that a quiet mourning period is not enough. She sneaks into the funeral home and "borrows" Mary’s ashes in an urn, bringing them back to Connie’s house so they can play one last hand together.

What starts as a touching memorial quickly spirals into a wildly unpredictable night. The evening involves heavy drinking, an unexpected police raid, a visit from a local police officer who doubles as a stripper, and involvement from Connie’s college-age daughter, Rachel (who is dealing with her own relationship drama after being stood up on a date).

Beneath the outrageous comedy and farce, Mary’s unorthodox final "legacy" pushes her three friends out of their comfort zones. They confront aging, grief, and regret, ultimately realizing that life is meant to be lived to the fullest at any age.
