From Stage to Student Representative: Evelyn Recker’s Showstoppers Journey

My name is Evelyn Recker, I am one of the newest Minnewaska Showstoppers board members. I will be the student representative for 2025-2027. We also elected Sophie Grandy as a regular board member. She’ll be writing the next Spotlight to introduce herself. I am a junior at Minnewaska Area High School and am currently taking PSEO classes at Alexandria Tech Community College. This isn’t my first time being involved with Showstoppers, I was in my first Showstoppers production (Footloose) when I was 9. I mostly got involved because of my mom but grew to love this community. This fall I am keeping busy with stage managing Minnewaska Area School’s production of Mary Poppins. This is the 2nd MAS musical that Jeff Iverson is directing, and it looks like it’s going to be another great show. Make sure to mark your calendars for November 14th and 15th at 7:00pm and the 16th at 2:00pm.

Speaking of performances, we are just finishing wrapping up everything from our summer show, Disney’s Newsies. That show happened to be one of our most well attended shows in recent years. I was the house manager, and it was very fun and exciting to see some new faces on stage and in the audience. Thank you to everyone in the community who attended. It is about that time again where we are starting to look at scripts for our winter show, which is going to be a dinner theater again, so stay tuned for more details. That show will be happening at the end of January.

In the meantime, look out for our murder mystery dinner theaters in collaboration with Rolling Forks Vineyard. November 7th is Murder in Sin City, and December 12th is Crime at Christmas time. We’re planning on 2 more events in early 2026. Go to the RFV website: www.rollingforksvineyards.com for tickets.

Once again, thank you to everyone and your support of the arts in this community!

Until Next Time,

Evelyn Recker
